A Growing Vision
Tuwe Bora’s journey began with a small but powerful community of women, particularly young mothers online. What started with a young moms support group and hands on skills training workshops soon evolved into a deeper mission of empowerment and rehabilitation.
In 2018, Tuwe Bora held its first crocheting workshop in Nakuru, bringing together women. This initiative not only taught valuable skills but also fostered a sense of community and support among the participants.
A Meaningful Connection: The Murang’a Visit
As the community grew, the group decided to take their support beyond just young moms. Linda and Charity, along with the 30 women, visited Murang’a Women’s Prison. This visit was not just about outreach; it was a moment of realization. While they provided immediate support and kindness, they recognized that the real challenge lay in helping these women reintegrate into society once they were released.
A New Mission: Empowering Incarcerated Women
This powerful realization sparked a new vision for Tuwe Bora. Linda and Charity saw the potential to offer vocational training to incarcerated women, helping them build a future beyond their sentences. This vision led them to open a small tailoring workshop in Kitengela town in the outskirts of Nairobi. Together, they began to create opportunities for these women to learn garment-making and bespoke fashion.
The Impact: Joyce’s Journey
One of the first women to benefit from this initiative was Joyce, who became Tuwe Bora’s first employee. Over the course of a year, Joyce not only honed her skills but also saved enough to purchase her own sewing machine, allowing her to start her own business.
The Birth of the Official Nursing Mum Cloth Collection
As Tuwe Bora continued to grow, they listened closely to the needs of their community especially young mothers balancing childcare, work, and identity. This insight led to the creation of the Official Nursing Mum Cloth Collection, a thoughtful line designed to support breastfeeding mothers with comfort, discretion, and style. The collection became a natural extension of Tuwe Bora’s roots: responding to real needs, designing with empathy, and ensuring every woman mother, student, or entrepreneur feels seen and supported.
From online mom groups to prison rehabilitation initiatives, from vocational training to purposeful product design, Tuwe Bora continues to transform lives through fashion, skills, and sustainable opportunity.
